Aged Care (CHC40108)

Certificate IV in Aged Care is designed to equip workers to provide physical and social support to elderly individuals and people with a psychological disability in hostels, group homes and community settings. With a strong practical focus, you will be taught the basic skills required in such a career, including:

  • How to communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues,
  • How to deliver the best service to your clients, and
  • How to support group activities.

This course is for people who are employed in aged care work or have prior experience in aged care work who want to develop their knowledge and skills in this area.

Career Opportunities:

These workers:

  • Carry out activities related to maintaining an individual’s well being through personal care and/or other activities of living
  • May provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people
  • Work may include training and support to promote independence and community participation, which may be provided as part of activities and programs in a variety of settings including residential and centre-based programs
  • Report to service managers and liaise with professionals and other service providers
  • May be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers

Course Duration and Attendance

The course can be undertaken on either a full-time or part-time basis. Studying on a part time basis will require attendance only once a week for up to 18 weeks (Not including work placement and Major Case Study). All courses are conducted on a regular basis.

Government funding may be available for eligable persons to cover cost of study.

Qualification and Further Study

Upon achieving competency and completion of the course, participants will achieve Certificate IV in Aged Care Work (CHC40108) which is recognised as an entry qualification for the diploma in Nursing.

Skills Recognition

Before the commencement of a course we offer the opportunity for students to be assessed for RPL (Recognition of prior learning), RCC (Recognition of Current Competencies), and CT (Credit Transfer). This could lower the cost of training and speed up the completion of the course.

Written evidence and assessment is required and will be reviewed by our training staff.
